Tourism in Fort Worth: Nature, History and Fun


Fort Worth and the surrounding Metroplex area offer a wide array of interesting places to visit. Most tourist attractions in the city are classified into four different categories.


Fort Worth Stockyards Historic District

If you want to experience the old west, the Forth Worth Stockyards Historic District is the place to be. This district is full of clubs, restaurants, gift shops and many other attractions like historic reenactments and the daily longhorn cattle drives. It is also in this district that you will find the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame and the world's largest venue for western and country music, Billy Bob's.


Cultural District

The city harbors numerous museums. Most of them you will find in the Cultural District of the city. It is home to the Kimbell Art Museum, which houses works from the earliest times to the 20th century. These include works by famous artists such as Rembrandt, Matisse, Caravaggio, Cezanne, El Greco, Fra Angelico, and Picasso.

The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, the oldest art museum in the state, was founded in 1892. It features some 2,600 pieces of post-war art.

American art is what Amon Carter Museum offers with its rich collection of works by 19th and 20th century American artists. Its collection includes works by Charles M. Russell and Frederic Remington. Some 30,000 astonishing photographs are also exhibited.

The feminist in you will be glad to visit the National Cowgirl Museum and hall of Fame. It is the only museum in the world that is dedicated to women of the American West. This is in honor of the incomparable bravery and groundbreaking spirit that they have demonstrated during their time.


Parks District

The Parks District offers a multitude of amazing places for nature-lovers. This is where you will find the Fort Worth Zoo, heralded as one of the top 10 best zoos in America. You will also find the oldest botanical garden in the state of Texas, the Fort Worth Botanic Garden. This garden takes pride in its 21 specialty gardens and more than 2,500 plant species. Other attractions are the Trinity Park, the Log Cabin Village, and the Fort Worth Botanic Garden.


Downtown

If you're not into parks or museums, and you just want plain fun, you should visit the downtown. Fort Worth's downtown is where you will find the Sundance Square, named after the notorious Sundance Kid. It is a 16 block entertainment center filled with various nightclubs, restaurants, live theaters, movie theaters, art galleries and boutiques.

Other attractions in this district include the Fort Worth Convention Center which has a capacity of 11,200 and the Bass Performance Hall.



Fort Worth is really a great place to have a taste of American culture and history. With its prominent museums, impressive gardens and inviting entertainment centers, Fort Worth is truly a magnificent city worth visiting.
